Patty Jenkins Reacts To Joss Whedon 'Wonder Woman' Script Leak

Following the release of “Avengers: Age Of Ultron,” Joss Whedon abruptly quit Twitter, and while he didn’t blame it on the blowback he received for the film, it’s not unreasonable to assume that might’ve played some role (Whedon claimed he wanted to avoid the noise of the internet as he started writing his next project). Well, it’s a good thing he’s stayed offline since because earlier this month, a draft of Whedon’s alleged script for “Wonder Woman,” written many moons ago, surfaced and was subsequently picked apart by the Twittersphere. The general consensus was that it was tone deaf, and didn’t have quite the girl power spirit many had hoped. However, Patty Jenkins, who directed the current smash hit “Wonder Woman,” has diplomatically told everyone to move on.

In an interview with Buzzfeed, Jenkins addressed Whedon’s script and says it’s a bit unfair to try and compare what he would’ve done circa 2005 when he was attached to direct “Wonder Woman,” and what she has done twelve years later.

“He’s in the DC universe now, and I don’t think there’s any reason to go there. It was what it was. I’m lucky that I’m the person who got to do it. But I don’t see what would be beneficial about comparing what he would’ve done versus what I would have done,” she said.

Fair point, and it should be stressed that it’s not clear if the script floating around was a final draft, an early pass, or if it’s even Whedon’s work. There are many hands stirring the pot when it comes to blockbuster movies, and it’s very likely that Whedon’s script might’ve gone under substantial changes before shooting, just as Jenkins and DC Films honcho Geoff Johns overhauled “Wonder Woman” prior to rolling.
