Petition Started To Save 'Tron 3'

Tron LegacyLate last week, it was reported that Disney had decided to axe the developing "Tron 3" aka "Tron: Ascension." Things had been moving along slowly over the past few months, with production aiming to gear up this fall in Vancouver, with director Joseph Kosinski, and stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde, all slated to return. But then, "Tomorrowland" underwhelmed both critically and commercially, and perhaps fearing sinking money into a sci-fi sequel which there might not be an audience for, Disney decided to yank the plug on "Tron 3." So, game over, right? Well, not so fast for some fans.

A petition has started up to save the movie on Change.org, and it has already amassed 10,000 signatures, with a goal of 15,000. Here’s what Lucas Lowman, who started the campaign, has to say about the push to keep the project alive:

Tron: Legacy grossed over 400 million dollars and helped more fully realize the world created in the original Tron. It’s a shame that Disney has elected not to move forward with a third Tron film as the universe is ripe to be explored. Sign this petition so that we may show Disney that The Grid is too great to never be shown again and to prove that Flynn lives.

However, fans shouldn’t put their hopes too high that Disney might pay attention. A dedicated campaign was launched following the dismal performance of "John Carter" to keep the franchise going, with fans even hitting the floor of Comic-Con in 2012 to try and collect signatures. It didn’t work. And it seems doubtful it would work in this scenario too. So, feel free to put a quarter into the movement to save the sequel, but just don’t expect to get to the next level.
