'Purity' Wouldn't Get In The Way Of Daniel Craig Playing James Bond Again, If He Wanted To

The cycle of James Bond news seems unending, but for the most part, it tends to be propped up by British press reporting whenever some actor gets placed in the betting pool as a potential candidate and it’s treated like a possible reality. But at this point, there are basically two things you need to know: first, that Daniel Craig was a grumpy Gus on the press tour for “Spectre,” and seems pretty burned out on playing 007; secondly, Jamie Bell has popped up as a potential name for the new Bond, while the internet’s boyfriends Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston look unlikely. But what if Craig actually does want to come back? He’s got a bunch of projects on his slate, perhaps the biggest being the Showtime series “Purity,” which will start shooting its Todd Field-directed 20-episode, two-season affair next year. But if indeed Craig puts on the tux again, the series won’t get in the way.

“It depends when they do the next James Bond movie, but I don’t think it precludes him is the answer,” Showtime CEO David Nevins said at the Television Critics Association. “[‘Purity’] will largely be completed during the course of 2017, depending how long they’re willing to wait and shoot the next Bond. There might be some breaks somewhere, but [production] will be fairly continuous.”

Basically, it seems like everyone is willing to work around scheduling, if it comes to it, for Daniel Craig to go on another adventurous, sexy spy mission, and then complain about it afterward. But it depends on if he wants to do it, if the producers want him back, and when those involved want the next Bond movie in cinemas. And right now, those are all open questions. [Deadline]
