When it comes to handing out awards for Breakout Actress of the year, look no further than "Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation" star Rebecca Ferguson. After showing she didn’t disappear under the star wattage of Tom Cruise, while making an impression all her own in the smash hit franchise flick, Ferguson shot to the top of the hot list. She landed a key role in the already buzzworthy "The Girl On The Train" with Emily Blunt, Jared Leto, and Chris Evans, and has wrapped on Stephen Frears‘ "Florence Foster Jenkins" with Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant. And up next? More big roles.

Deadline reports that Ferguson is in talks to join Michael Fassbender in "The Snowman." "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" director Tomas Alfredson is at the helm of the long brewing project (once earmarked for Martin Scorsese to direct, he’s still on board to produce), an adaptation of the best-seller by Jo Nesbo. The story follows detective Harry Hole as he tracks down a serial killer who kills married mothers and leaves their belongings on snowmen near the scene. No word on Ferguson’s role, but the project sounds pretty great already.
Meanwhile, Ridley Scott is eyeing the actress for his brewing "Alien: Paradise Lost," which will also star Fassy. Apparently, no offer has yet been made, but the latest draft of the script has been handed in, and it has "a peach of a major female role."
Timing wise, both pictures could be done. "The Snowman" will shoot in January, and Scott has previously said that his "Prometheus" sequel will lens in February. It’ll be back-to-back efforts for Ferguson and Fassbender (actually, three movies in a row for the latter actor, who is currently shooting "Assassin’s Creed"), but it can be done. And Ferguson is certainly someone we wouldn’t mind seeing in both movies.
Also fighting for Ferguson’s affections are the long developing "Guernsey (aka The Guernsey Literary Society and Potato Peel Pie Society)" that has Mike Newell attached to direct, and possibly another ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie, though that isn’t expected to shoot until next summer.
Phew. If you haven’t been paying to attention to Rebecca Ferguson, perhaps now is the time.
