Robert Redford & Bryce Dallas Howard Discuss A Friend In The Forest In First Clip From 'Pete’s Dragon'

Disney has had a huge amount of success with recent reimaginings of their classic catalog of films. “Cinderella,” “Maleficent,” and, most recently, “The Jungle Book” have made a lot of money for the studio, and “Pete’s Dragon” hopes to continue that success when the film, starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Karl Urban, and Robert Redford, opens later this summer.

The first clip from the film focuses on Bryce Dallas Howard’s character, Grace, explaining to her father, played by Redford, how a young boy survived six years in the forest. He is confused further when he sees a drawing from the boy of the boy’s friend, who happens to be a dragon.

The new “Pete’s Dragon” is directed by David Lowry and written by Lowry and Toby Halbrooks. WETA Digital, best known for their work on Peter Jackson’sLord of the Rings” films, is creating the CGI for the titular dragon, while the score — heard briefly in the clip — comes from Daniel Hart who memorably scored Lowery’s breakout “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints.”

“Pete’s Dragon” opens on August 12th.
