Last fall, we broke the exclusive story that late producer Jerry Weintraub, ‘Ocean’s’ trilogy director Steven Soderbergh, and George Clooney were working on a female-led reboot of the “Ocean’s 11” franchise, with Sandra Bullock set to lead, and Gary Ross (“Seabiscuit,” “The Hunger Games“) directing. Meanwhile, putting the idea on the page was screenwriter Olivia Milch (“Queen & Country,” “Little Women”). Not much has been heard about the project since, but the chatter suggests its gearing up and adding a mega-watt star to the cast.

Rumor has it that Jennifer Lawrence is in discussions to join the movie. Certainly, an A-list star of the actress’ stature is being considered and wishlisted for many projects around Hollywood, but this does have some more foundation to it too. A few years back, Lawrence had been developing two projects with her ‘Hunger Games’ director, a two-part adaptation of John Steinbeck‘s “East Of Eden” and an adaptation of Hannah Kent‘s bestselling “Burial Rites,” but neither has really come to fruition. So perhaps ‘Ocean’s’ is a way for Lawrence to work with Ross again.

Production is reportedly aiming to begin this fall, so we’ll likely soon see if this casting plays out or not, and what other female starts might be in the mix. Again, nothing is official, but at the very least, it seems the wheels on this one are starting to turn. [The Tracking Board]
