Ryan Reynolds & Samuel L. Jackson Get Triggered In New Trailer For ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’

The early marketing for “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” really leaned heavily on parodying “The Bodyguard,” with first poster showing star Ryan Reynolds carrying his co-star Samuel L. Jackson similar to how Kevin Costner held Whitney Houston. The first trailer used the famous Whitney Houston song, “I Will Always Love You,” to really drive home the message that this movie was just like that one, but with laughs.

However, in the new trailer, it seems as if they’re giving us a little more story instead of just “The Bodyguard” meta-jokes and lots of curse words. What you’re left with is a fairly typical action comedy with two larger than life personalities leading the way, and it actually looks like a lot of fun. Reynolds and Jackson are barely even playing characters in the footage seen. They seem to just be playing every version of every character they’ve played throughout their careers. But hey, they’re really good at doing that and there’s lots of swearing and shooting!

“The Hitman’s Bodyguard” is about the world’s best bodyguard (Reynolds), who is commissioned to guard one of the world’s best hitmen (Jackson.) After things go wrong, hilarity and explosions ensue. The explosions come courtesy of director Patrick Hughes, who is coming off directing “The Expendables 3.” Joining Reynolds and Jackson in the cast are Gary Oldman, Salma Hayek, and Elodie Yung.

“The Hitman’s Bodyguard” comes out August 18th.
