Sam Raimi Eyes Directing Tornado Heist Movie 'Stormfall'

In the general conversation around the success of Disney‘s live-action remake/fairy tale movies, it’s generally forgotten that one effort missed pretty hard: 2013’s “Oz The Great And Powerful.” The movie didn’t connect with critics, and while it did manage to haul in nearly $500 million worldwide, Disney has politely moved on, and doesn’t seem all that passionate to continue down the yellow brick road. As for Sam Raimi, he’s certainly taken his time to figure out what he wants to do next, with his name getting attached to projects as wide-ranging as “World War 3” and the remake of “A Prophet.” Now there’s another he’s toying with.

Variety reports that Raimi is developing the tentatively titled “Stormfall” over at Warner Bros. Writers are being sought for the project which will detail a heist that takes place during a tornado. “It’s like ‘Twister‘ Meets ‘Ocean’s Eleven‘!” is how the pitch meeting went, at least in my imagination. But hey, it’s an original concept at least, and in this era where everything at a major studio has to be attached some kind of licensed product, that’s refreshing.

So, consider it cooking in the background for Raimi, who continues to sort out which movie he’ll direct next.
