Samara Returns In First Trailer For Horror Reboot 'Rings'

I’m not even going to get into the ways the Japanese iteration of “The Ring” has continued to live on, but the stateside version has done pretty well. 2002’s “The Ring” was a smash hit, and while the 2005 sequel didn’t quite do the same business, there’s probably no reason they it needed to sit around for over a decade to get a followup, especially how little horror movies tend to cost these days. But “Rings” is here, with Paramount making more good on their scary property. Moreover, Samara is back, and it will no longer be safe to watch home videos again.

Directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez (“Before The Fall“), this new sequel features Aimee Teegarden and Johnny Galecki among others, with Bonnie Morgan is the dark-haired girl who freaks everyone out. As for the plot, you probably don’t need to know all that much except that a new recording of that awful video will probably be resurrected. Here’s the official synopsis:

A new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise. A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…

“Rings” opens on October 28th.
