Saoirse Ronan is gearing up to visit “Stockholm, Pennsylvania.” She’ll co-star with Miranda Hobbes Cynthia Nixon and Jason Isaacs in the drama that follows “developmentally stunted Leia, a young woman raised by a kidnapper who now struggles to acclimate to her actual parents after 20 years of separation.” Nixon will play the girl’s mother and Isaacs her captor, with production beginning in Los Angeles (wait a minute, that doesn’t sound right…) next week. UFC Fighter Ronda Rousey is continuing her steps into the acting world. With roles already in the upcoming “The Expendables 3” and “Fast & Furious 7,” she’s looking to make an impression in a couple more films. First, she’s joining the upcoming “Entourage” movie in a “female lead” role, though it’s unclear what the part is exactly. And she’s attached herself to the adaptation of Brad Thor‘s book “Gods Of Athena,” which is in the early stages of development (it needs a screenwriter). But the story will follow “a top secret, all-female Delta Force counterterrorism team code named the Athena Project that is sent in to hunt and kill a master terrorist after a bombing in Rome kills 20 Americans. Trouble ensues once the team realizes there’s more at play than a simple bombing.” Certainly sounds better than “ExpendaBelles.” [Variety]
Glenn Close and Nick Nolte are teaming up for “Always On My Mind.” Written and slated to be directed by Chris D’Arienzo, the story of “an aging rock star [who] succumbs to dementia while his wife is left to pick up the pieces of his hard-lived rock n’ roll life” sounds like some potentially good stuff. Lastly, Patrick Wilson and Ian McShane will star in “The Man On Carrion Road” for director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego (“Apollo 18,” “Open Grave“). Penned by Nils Lyew, the story kicks off with a botched Mexican cartel deal in the back roads of a border town. The town’s new sheriff (Wilson) must team up with the retired lawman (McShane) he replaced to investigate the source of the deal in order to stop a mysterious cartel butcher and his systematic brutalization of the town’s residents. Production starts in April.
