Shia LaBeouf Won't Crack The Whip For 'Indiana Jones 5'

Harrison Ford is taking a late-career revisit of his iconic roles. Han Solo returned for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and this fall, Rick Deckard is still knocking around the future in “Blade Runner 2049.” If that wasn’t enough, the 75 year-old actor will once again put on the fedora and crack the whip for the planned “Indiana Jones 5.” However, one franchise player won’t be returning.

Speaking with EW, screenwriter David Koepp revealed that the archaeology saga won’t be bringing Mutt Williams from “Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull” into the next chapter.

“Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say,” he said. “And the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film.”

The news isn’t entirely a surprise. LaBeouf famously dissed the sequel after the movie was released, and Ford didn’t think much of his young co-star for getting candid in the press, calling him a “fucking idiot.” However, with producer Frank Marshall saying last year that “Indiana Jones 5” will be a “continuation” of ‘Kingdom Skull,’ it remains to be seen just exactly what that means. My guess? They’ll acknowledge the adventure happened, but pretty much drop anything else from carrying over into the next instalment.

Of course, the plot for the next movie is being kept wrapped up tight, but of course, it will involve chasing “some precious artifact that they’re all looking for.”

No release date yet for “Indiana Jones 5,” but last we heard, it was being set for release in 2020.
