The Queers, Reason to Fight, The Parapalegics
Jerky's in Providence, RI
August 27, 2009

In a day that had gone south before most people had even thought about eating breakfast, I was talked into going to see The Queers, with the promise of free admission and the hopes it would set free some of the burden eating at my heart like acid.

After a nap and some procrastination, I picked up Josh and we got to the show shortly before The Parapalegics took the stage. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of people there, but the ones watching The Parapalegics were having a good time. I can't remember the last time I saw them, but I was pretty impressed with their not too challenging yet daring punk rock style. They had good stage presence and made good use of screaming. I wasn't expecting to like them as much as I did, but they put on a pretty damn good set.

A band like Reason to Fight has been around for so long that their songs have become almost second nature to them. They blew through their set without any sort of interference, and sounded great in the process. This is a band that is teetering on the verge of the next level, but unfortinately live in Rhode Island, which makes that next level they so rightfully deserve that much harder to get to.

As I was driving to and/or at the show, I realized that I only realy knew songs from Love Songs for the Retarded, and possibly a few from Beat Off. Its been awhile since I've actually listened to The Queers, but their Ramones' style of songwriting made every song seem recognizable. They all started the set sporting hats, and the sound wasn't super clear, but I had a lot of fun listening to them and gained a new interest in checking out their back catalogue. Songa of interest included "You're Twisted," and their cover of "My Old Man's a Fatso."
