Nachtmystium, Zoroaster, The Body, Baphomet's Horns
Redrum in Providence, RI
December 12, 2006

What can I say? A night of Black Metal and Doom. What more could you ask for? Except there were no chruch burnings or band member killings this time around. Upon arriving, we heard some band playing what sounded like black metal, but when we went upstairs, I heard in a not so very scary black metal voice "We are baphomet's horns, thank you!". From what I was informed, they were a Black/Death Metal band from Conneticut and they spoke all night in the Black Metal voice. Oooooohhhhhhhhhh so scary. What I noticed is the No Smoking sign hanging on a ceiling tile, but I noticed people smoking in there. There was even a "Please, Smoke Outside" sign of the pole for fucks sake, but no, these "metallers" smoked inside, and with no fucking windows open, I knew it wasn't going to be a good night. At least James said "Let's go outside so I can have a smoke." At least he understood.

The Body played and, even with headphones on, they were fucking loud. I don't think Chip needs a microphone because you can hear his high pitched shrieking over the extremely loud fucking doom. I like this band a whole-fuck-lot. Not because they're friends, they just put a smile on my face. And the fact they covered "Cop Killer" by Body Count and made it slow is a plus in my world. And you know what else? Even with their long songs, they still manage to keep their set short. Every time. What the fuck you sitting there reading this for? Go to Armageddon Shop and pick up something from The Body there you fucks.

But my joy was shot down after they played as the whole fucking place was engulfed with cigarette smoke. I am about this close as to having some sort of problem. I could've started smoking again and not cough for fuck's sake. No window open still. But James wanted another smoke, so we went outside. Fresh air!

Zoroaster played, and to tell you the truth, I've no fucking idea how they sounded. It was stoner/doom. It reminded me of older High On Fire stuff. I liked it, but I don't remember. That's all you're getting from me here.

Now, I am simply irate that I can't breathe and smell like a fucking ashtray. James wanted yet another smoke so we went outside. Air. Fresh fucking air.

But a miracle happened. As "evil" as Black Metal is and "evil" Nachtmystium are, they did some divine intervention. They had a fog machine. A fog machine folks, and it was on full blast. You know what that means. Fresh fog air. Ahhh, you could see the relief on my facade. I started to smell like fog machine air and that put a smile on my face. But I doubted their set because, I was never impressed with black metal shows. Well, this was my first but I was judging by videos. Indeed, I was wrong because they were fucking fantastic. Fast, aggresive, musically talented. They weren't looking at their guitars. I guess it's a "You had to be there to experience it" kind of thing because the sound was good. The singer, Blake, really appreciated playing at a D.I.Y. place because they were playing clubs and shit. He said that it was awesome playing at Redrum. I wish I could tell you what songs and albums they played off of, but get anything by them, they're an excellent band.

Upon leaving the club, I was relieved that I smell 90 percent of fog and 10 percent of smoke. That was good enough for me. The show was fantastic overall but you know why I wasn't having a good time. It dawned on me that I survived my first Black Metal show and that no Nazi's were going to kill me
