Another Option kicked the show off, which made me a little nervous. I was really looking forward to seeing The Blackout Pact, but none of their merch was set up, and an unscheduled band was opening the show. I was a little bummed that they weren't playing, but I'm sure they'll play Providence eventually.
I went up front for the first couple Another Option songs, originally thinking these guys were No Trigger. They are a very talented (young) band, music wise, but it seemed like the songs were used to showcase those talents instead of writing a well rounded good song. They did have some good songs, but I mostly saw them as an alright band with an incredible amount of potential. Another Option mixed Blink 182 pop punk with teh technical punk of A Wilhelm Scream and modern day emo. They had some catchy parts, unfunny banter in between songs, and a duel whiney vocal attack with a few screams.
I spent the majority of their set trying to figure out if the girl standing next to me, who had a beer in her hand, was pregnant. I was trying to be nonchalant about it, but she kept looking back over at me, which eventually led to my retreat to the TV to watch the football game.
No Trigger spent about a half hour doing nothing but ripping shit up. They played an amazing set, previewing a good amount of songs from their upcoming, soon to be classic, album. Nitro has really struck gold with this band, who combine the greatest parts of Strung Out and Rise Against to create some incredible music.
Their singer is a great frontman who wasn't afraid to to interact with the crowd and sing in their faces. I was right up front, which led me to be treated to a head shake, which made my head itchy for the rest of the night, for some reason.
My review of Blues Bastard is pretty worthless, since this was their last show. They were a boring rock and roll band that I will probably never think about again. They seemed to have fun onstage, which was good, but I spent my time walking around waiting for A Wilhelm Scream to play.
A Wilhelm Scream had me quickly forgetting about the borefest that I had just endured, having me happy at the first note of "The King is Dead." They had so much energy and the crowd was loyally and excitedly singing along to every word. They played such a tight set that I couldn't help but leave with a smile on my face.
