Agnostic Front, Madball, With Honor, Vietnom, Reason to Fight
The Living Room in Providence, RI
February 5, 2005

Sarah and I showed up right as Reason to Fight started playing, as we had to cut our gambling trip to Lincoln Park (we each lost $5 in 30 seconds playing a game we didn't understand) short when we found out that they were going on 15 minutes earlier than expected. I was videotaping their set and I was more focuesed on the shots I was taking over how they sounded. I payed more attention during the few songs that Sarah taped, and they sounded pretty good. They covered "Hard Times" by the Cro Mags.

I'm a big fan of Fuzzy's angry, almost melodic sounding growl. It reminds me a bit of Choke from Slapshot. Its very distinctive and helps them stand out as opposed to other bands playing the same style.

At first, I didn't like Vietnom. They sounded a bit too rap influenced. But, they grew on me as they tore through their set. They were standard tough hardcore with that head nodding rap-ish feel to them. I was a big fan of their faster songs.

With Honor was unsurprisingly incredible, though the sound wasn't all that great for them. The guitars sounded a bit too loud and the mix was uneven, but that didn't stop them from playing a heartfelt set. The pile ons and gang vocals were running rampant and I don't think my head stopped banding during their set. I'm so stoked that they're playing close by two or three more times in the next few weeks.

Madball was good, but not as good as the last time they played the Living Room (or because they had to follow With Honor). Again, the mix didn't sound great, but they still played a lot of songs that I loved like "Its My Life," "Get Out," and "Lockdown."

Agnostic Front was supposed to go on at 10:55. At 11:10, I looked down and saw Sarah sleeping on my lap. That and the fact that I was incredibly dehydrated prompted my decision to skip out before they started playing (we were originally going to watch a few songs). Agnostic Front is a band that I somehow usually end up missing (even if I'm at the show).

I asked Greg about their set, and here's what he said:

PL: Hey, how was Agnostic Front?

Greg: Great!

PL: How long did they play for?

Greg: About 45 minutes. I got a bunch of good pics with me and Freddie, Vinny and Roger.

PL: Nice. Did AF play a lot of new songs?

Greg: Yeah, they played at least four off the new one.

PL: How'd they sound?

Greg: Good. They were selling it for $15 at the show. It's got to be cheaper at Newbury.

PL: Yeah, its only $10 at Newbury.

Greg: There weren't really any fights either.

PL: Nice. What old songs did they play?

Greg: "CRUCIFIED," "UNITED BLOOD," "LAST WARNING" and a few more. They played a lot off of Riot Riot Upstart.

PL: I haven't heard Riot Riot Upstart.

Greg: I think it was their first one on Epitaph.

PL: It was their second.

Greg: Oh.
