The Black Maria opened the show with an energetic set, playing songs to a bunch of people who have yet to hear their new album. The seemed to be into it, though the crowd was relatively quiet and polite. They played really well and really opened my ears to "Betrayal," which went unnoticed before then but has now become my favorite song on the album.
I didn't get to see much of Number One Fan because I was interviewing Spitalfield and The Black Maria at the beginning and ending of their set respectively, and I was looking for someone in The Black Maria in between. I liked what I heard, but it served as merely background music for me. A friend of mine, who was seeing/hearing them for the first time, did spend a few minutes telling how great they were, so they must have been pretty good.
Spitalfield was really impressive. Their live show has improved so much since April, when I last saw them. They were energetic and funny, joking with the crowd about how they didn't move or make noise in between songs, and played their old songs really well. Their new songs sounded impressive. I will go on record predicting that Victory is going to have a better year this year than last. They have some great bands putting out music.
A Victory band I don't like is Hawthorne Heights. I stayed for about one song, which was spent saying good bye to the people I knew and buying T shirts. I couldn't stand the singer's voice, but the crowd was loving them.
