It was a good thing that I went to this show with Chan, or else I would have gone to the wrong place. It turned out that the original venue didn't let bands play there anymore, so some lawyer guy let bands play at this studio type place. The cops still shut the show down, but I was long asleep by then.
We walked in as Tombs were playing. Being called Tombs, I wasn't surprised to hear them playing doom stoner style metal with great musicianship. I made sure to check out the scenery as I slowly made my way to the front to get a great view of the band.
The place looked like an extended living room, complete with blue couches and chairs and a piano. Everyone but two people were wearing black shirts, which, while not surprising, was still pretty funny to see.
I made my way to one of the comfortable blue chairs shortly after Tombs ended their set adn were packing their equipment away, adn I remained there in an odd frame of mind due to overtiredness for pretty much the duration of my time at the show. The chair was pretty soft and comfortable, with a decent view of the bands and an even better view of Chan ripping apart a wooden chair right next to me for unknown reasons.
This was the first time that I saw She Rides, who used to be known as Playgirl and will probably get pretty damn popular soon. They only played three songs, and I was drifting in and out of consciousness while have short life like dreams, but I liked what I heard. They had a rock and roll hardcore style, with a focus on the hardcore. This is a band I will check out when I am more awake. She Lies was kind enough to split their set with a band whose name I forgot. Their set wasn't impressive at all, and I spent the majority of it sleeping on that comfortable blue couch.
The show was about half over, with the three bands that I came to see yet to play, but I was not feeling awake at all, and pretty much slept until Tranistor Transistor took the stage. The fact that the slow relaxing sounds of That Much Further West by Lucero probably wasn't helping my awakedness much, but my brain and sleep mode had taken over by that time. I felt like the drugged out kid that can't do anything but crouch along in a corner, even though I had taken no drugs whatsoever.
Transistor Transistor was pretty bad ass, even though not many people stayed inside to watch them, which was a shame. They were heavy as all hell, with tight chaotic songs that should have energized me, but didn't, unfortunately. The people outside, and the sleeping version of me, missed a great set (my conscious version enjoyed what I saw).
I decided that walking outside after Transistor Transistor's set would wake me up a little bit, though I was pretty damn wrong. I was talking to Chan and a few other people, moving around like a zombie on sleeping pills, when Chan told me that I should probably go home, as I didn't look good. Me being his ride, he must have feared for his safety to fend himself another ride home. I was dangerously tired, and came awfully close to falling asleep on the ride home, but I made it.
What I missed were the two bands that I really wanted to see. Chan told me a few days later that Engineer sounded really good and heavy, although he stayed outside their whole set because it was too hot inside (I'm actually listening to their album right now, and can only amazing how heavy and awesome their live show must've been). He also said that Coliseum played three awesome songs before the cops came and shut the show down.
