I missed the first band due to a baseball game, and didn't have my wallet due to stupidity. Luckily, I scored myself a ticket via team mate, but I ended up with a wristband saying that I was under 21, even though I'm old enough to rent a car (plus one).
Bad Wizard didn't have a bassist. They said something about him quitting or not being there (I don't quite remember), but they could have really used his presence. Playing a stoner hard rock style like Bad Wizard plays, they really benefit from having some low end. They still played a pretty good set despite their loss, although it was a bit short.
Early Man was, to put it mildly, awesome. They too did not have a bassist, but they didn't need one. I was questioning why they'd get a second guitarist over a bassist, but they answered that question pretty damn quickly. Their two wailing guitarists more than made up for a lack of a bassist. The riffs were great and the drumming was stupendous. They put on a really good set, especially for fans of great riffing.
Three Inches of Blood quickly got the crowd into a frenzy. Their Judas Priest meets Iron Maiden styled metal was everything live that I hoped it'd be, and I was super stoked that I was able to see more than a 20 minute set (I saw them at Metal Fest last year). They were super tight and full of such technical musicianship (not to mention fast) that it was almost mind blowing. The duel vocals worked really well, with the high pitched squeel of Cam Pipes taking center stage while still having a nice contrast with the hardcore screams of Jamie Hooper. They played a couple of new songs that didn't sound much different than Advance and Vanquish, which was exactly what I was hoping for. Three Inches of Blood put on a hell of a live show, making generations of metal heads extremely happy.
