From a Second Story Window, Cattle Decapitation, Misery Index, Animosity, Job for a Cowboy
Club Lido in Revere, MA
June 13, 2006

Two friends backed out and Chan didn't want to go, which left me driving solo to Revere to check out the show. I pondered not going, but I had three interviews scheduled, and this line up was too good not to see (I'm still kicking myself for skipping the Ignite show for the same reasons).

Out of boredom, I left my house super early, hoping to hang out by a beach that was supposedly nearby. I couldn't find the beach and Revere seemed seedy as all hell, so I drove aimlessly towards Salem, getting back as doors were supposed to open, although they didn't open for another half hour.

Lambgoat's favorite band to hate, Job for a Cowboy, opened the show. The club was much darker than I anticipated, making it hard for me to figure out where the hell I was going, but I eventually landed in front of the stage, able to get a good view of the band.

These guys didn't look like they were still in high school, and they didn't play like it either. The sound wasn't all that great, meaning I could really only hear the kick drum, vocals and the guitar amp I was standing in front of, but they still played a decent set, though I didn't hear as many pig squeals as I had anticipated.

After reading that Animosity recently had bassist Evan Brewer join the band, I was super stoked to see them, as that dude is a freaking amazing musician. I tried watching him as much as I could, but I didn't want to get too close to the stage and risk spilling my beer due to a mosher, and I don't have super tall Inspector Gadget legs, so I was only able to see him when the taller peeps in front of me moved briefly. He wasn't doin as much crazy stuff as I expected, but the band was really fucking good, with the exception of a few long and unneeded electronic intros. They had a better sound than Job for a Cowboy, though the vocals were pretty distorted. They played a quick set because they were heading to Boston to see Frank Zappa's kids play.

I missed about a half a song of Misery Index because I was buying a tasty hot dog on a stale and not so tasty bun. Misery Index were fucking phenomenal. They were spot on super tight and the vocals were not distorted like the first two bands. Their new songs sounded amazing, making me wonder why I hadn't bought Discordia yet (I picked it up at the show), as was everything else they played. I didn't understand why their drummer felt he needed sunglasses in such a dark room, but their supurb playing had me focusing on that instead of my hatred for people wearing sunglasses indoors.

Cattle Decapitation were off to a great start, blowing through a few great songs, but then technical difficulties brought upon nothing but the drummer playing for awhile as random loud mouths in the crowd yelled for him to stop. That break in their set didn't cause them to lose any momentum though, as they were on fire after that. Their new songs sounded angrier than someone who just got shit on by a bird, but they were really funny between songs, especially when singer Travis Ryan started talking about buttholes.

From a Second Story Window had people moshing before they even started their feedback, and it didn't really stop until their set was over. The moshing was pretty crazy, with people jumping on stage, into the crowd, as well as doing the piggy back mosh. This was the craziest pit I'd seen in awhile, and it was deserved because From a Second Story Window kicked ass from start to finish. They played a good amount of new songs (three, I think), which didn't sound all that different from their older songs, with the exception of some singing. I had read that they were singing now, but I was still taken off guard. However, I didn't mind it at all and it actually fit in pretty well with what they were doing, making me even more excited for Delenda to be released on July 11.
