Bayside, The Loved Ones, I am the Avalanche, The Sleeping, Astrea
The Living Room in Providence, RI
June 24, 2006

Some band Astrea opened the show, but I only caught their last two or three songs, which wasn't all that impressive. They played traditional sing/scream music, but nothing that made them really stand out. They had a fan singing along on the side of the stage that had better stage presence than the actual band.

The Sleeping's set was full of energy. Singer Douglas Robinson was very lively, engaging the crowd and pretty much getting them to do whatever he wanted. They played a pretty tight set, although the bas was too loud most of the time and drowned out the guitar. The vocals, however, were good, and the crowd was really into them.

I missed a song or two of I am the Avalanche, as I was outside interviewing The Sleeping. Walking back into the club was like diving head first into boiling water (except not as hot). Sweat aside, I am the Avalanche really tore up the place. They mostly played songs off of their self titled album, but they also played a new song, which was heavier, but still awesome as hell.

The Loved Ones were fucking amazing. They were tight, energetic and entertaining to watch. Dave Hause was running around like a nut without Ritalin, often dropping his mic stand, but getting screams of adoration from the female crowd. The rest of the crowd gave them a warm reception, though I thought people should have been way more into them, especially since they played the best set of the night. Hause was also joking with some people (i.e. making fun of them), which was pretty funny. The best part of their set involved a guy buying beers for these two underage chicks he was trying to bang, but he ended up getting caught by the bartender and had to give the beers back (I was surprised that he wasn't kicked out).

I only stayed for a few Bayside songs, as Limp Wrist was playing in Olneyville, and I wanted to catch them. I watched about 15 or 20 minutes of their set, which was full of high energy and a screaming crowd. They were really tight, and their new drummer, Chris, was pretty damn good. I was able to hear "Blame it on Bad Luck," which is my favorite Bayside song, so I was happy. I also saw a girl get kicked out by the band, though I wasn't sure why (she may have punched someone in the pit). She was screaming at the bouncers, so I decided to leave in hopes of catching some action, though all I saw was her and her friends talking about how much Bayside and The Living Room sucked.

I got to the Limp Wrist show and found Chan, who was feeling sick and wanted to leave. Not wanted to spend anymore time at a show by myself (along with the stench of crusty kids at the show) aided in my decision to take him home and call it a night. I'm sure Limp Wrist was awesome as hell, and the band playing as we walked to my car, The Fuzz, sounded good enough for me to check out at a later date.
