Against All Authority, The Summer Obsession, Rory, Lemon Lime Tennis Shoes
The Living Room in Providence, RI
March 13, 2007

Lemon Lime Tennis Shoes opened up the show and sounded exactly like a band named Lemon Lime Tennis Shoes should: ska punk with a horn section and massive cheesiness. There's not many ska punk bands that I like (even though the band I was there to see played that style), and I didn't find these local guys impressive at all. They had a few decent parts, but nothing amazing. They did have a pretty big cheering section, with them being the local band and all.

I liked Rory's album, but they sounded 10x better live. Their songs were a lot more energetic and had a very raw punk rock feel, instead of the Brand New/emo vibe that comes off on record. They started tehir set by jokingly playing part of a Good Charlotte song, sending it out to The Summer Obsession (I believe their drummer used to play in the band). That kicked off the light hearted and high energy beginning that didn't let up at all the entire time. The crowd participated with one guy heckling the band and another guy breakdancing, both leading to some added entertainment.

I did not like The Summer Obsession. I was a bit intrigued before they went on, but that quickly faded as they started playing. They sounded like Blink 182, but with barely tolerable vocals. They tried to be funny at times, but failed. They did have one fast part that I enjoyed, but I spent the majority of their set wishing for them to finish.

Its probably been almost ten years since I last saw Against All Authority (which was at the now closed down Rat in Boston, MA). I can't remember what they sounded like them, but they sounded amazing at this show. The one trumpet player horn section sounded surprisingly full, and the rest of the band did their part of kicking ass and taking names.

The energy level was high, especially crowd wise. There were constant circle pits, pogoing, dancing; you name it. I was not expecting the crowd to be this into Against All Authority, especially since there were more than a few young people, but I was very glad to see them going off to this band. I was also very excited to hear them play a bunch of old songs (which I wasn't expecting at all), including "Toby," "Centerfold" (upon request), "Hard as Fuck," and "Walking Revolution" (there was another old one they played but I can't remember the name of it). It was especially nice to watch the crowd go off to these older songs, telling me that they did their homework on this awesome band.

We didn't stay for Whole Wheat Bread because we had another engagement to attend to, but Against All Authority made the show a huge success. It was just great watching them and the crowd rock out really hard, loudly telling me that the good ones will never die.
