The Palladium was pretty damn packed. I was pretty surprised to see so many people. They wouldn't let people downstairs midway through Scars of Tomorrow because it was full. Fuck.
The sound wasn't that good at all up in the balcony. That, with the addition of Scars of Tomorrow not being that good, led Sarah and I to spend most of their set on the stage of the Palladium Upstairs. I knew that I wasn't a fan of Scars of Tomorrow, and had planned to be eating dinner during their set, but that didn't happen (prolonging dinner until after midnight).
Back to the balcony to see Norma Jean. I guess their singer had been sick earlier in the day, but you couldn't tell by the way he sang. The whole band was going nuts, which made for a good performance. They also had a light show, which was pretty cool with the exception of a blinding light that seemed directed right into the eyes of Sarah and I.
Being up in the balcony, I was able to get a good look at the drummers. I knew that Mike Justian of Unearth was gonna be totally amazing (more on that later), but I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of Daniel Davison. Hey was pretty damn impressive to watch and I was glad that I was sitting in the balcony and able to see him play (instead of trying to stand on my tip toes just to maybe see the stage-it'd be nice to have Inspector Gadget legs sometimes).
Jesus Christ, Jestian is such a good fucking drummer. The guy just goes nuts and he was the only one that I watched during Unearth's set. The sound wasn't much better and I could barely make out what was being said in between songs (or recognize some songs right away), but watching Justian was a treat in itself. He's the kind of guy that you want to punch because he's so damn good.
Unearth's set, with the exception of the poor balcony sound, was damn good. My head was banging throughout their set. They were filming a video for their next single, but I didn't see the cameras going or anything. I was pretty bummed because I was excited about watching a video being shot (even though I guess I did, though I was too stupid to realize it).
We were going to skip out on Atreyu and get some food, but something prompted us to stay. Hungry, we waited for them to start. They came out in matching white shirts and jeans (the singer had on white jeans), which I thought was pretty rock star cheesy (I don't even think its cute when parents dress their twins in the same exact outfit). The guitarists and bassist were also doing ZZ Top rockstar guitar moves, where they would all be near each other and have their instruments move at the same time (I'm doing a horrible job explaining this). I'd think that this was them being cheesy rock stars, but they've always done this, even when they played to 30 people at the Met Cafe years ago.
They were pretty good, and played some songs that I like a lot. They played more songs than I was expecting from Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses (the only one I can remember is "Someone's Standing on my Chest"), as well as "Right Side of the Bed" and "The Rememberance Ballad" from The Curse. We left after "The Rememberance Ballad" in search of food at the 99 Restaurant, which was closed. Hungry and bummed, we headed back to Attleboro for some McDonalds.
