The Junior Varsity opened the show sounding happy to be playing (this was the first date of the tour). The crowd wasn't that packed, but most of the people were up front watching them. Sarah, Beth and I sat on the couch and listened to their set, me laying on Sarah's shoulder because my eyes wouldn't stay open. I wasn't falling asleep because The Junior Varsity was boring; I found their Get Up Kids influenced rock to be catchy and relaxing, but I was incredibly tired for some reason. They play a good set and their between song banter was pretty funny.
Just Surrender sounded like a second rate Taking Back Sunday, but with higher pitched vocals and not nearly as good. Their three singer attack was decent, but I have no intention to ever listen to them again. I didn't mind that I kept nodding off during their set.
We caught half of Bayside's set because we were outside interviewing The Junior Varisty. Bayside was full of energy and really impressed me. They were moving all over the small stage as they played both old and new songs. I still think that they sound like Alkaline Trio, but I don't mind that.
This is a good tour to check out if you want to hear two good bands playing some new material while a band that really sucks plays in between them.
