The fact that you can stream the new Alkaline Trio album on their Myspace is old news. I'm sure hundreds, if not more, have already commented their opinions on sites more popular than this one. I really enjoyed the album, which seems to go against popular opinion. The choruses are catchy and they're not as gothic as their past couple albums seemed to be. I will be picking this up in a couple days.
June 29, 2008
While not being full album streams, two bands also gave listeners a taste of what their new albums will sound like. The Melvins gave fans a taste of Nudes With Boots with "Kickin Machine," a song has an ACDC meets Big Business type riff; a song I'm sure the band would go nuts to live.
In a highly anticipated song with a production I wasn't expecting, , The Gaslight Anthem have released the title track off of The '59 Sound. The production sounds antique, which took a bit of getting used to, but I came to enjoy the vintage sound. The song itself is wonderful, complete with a catchy chorus and a heartfelt verse. I'm stoked for this album.

I came across an ad on Punk News last night featuring Living With Lions. I was expecting some fast hardcore with crushing breakdowns, but I was given fast, driving punk with gruff Hot Water Music type vocals. They sound similar to Fallen From the Sky and A Wilhelm Scream. I was really impressed and am now going to hunt down their material. Their Myspace page is also pretty cool, with a passed out guy that you can draw on with a marker.
June 22, 2008
Beat Union are an exciting new band, and their album Disconnected... recently came out on Science Records. Here are some links to two songs off of that album: "Disconnected" and "Pressure Zone." Enjoy.
June 22, 2008
I felt a little creepy going to a dance recital by myself last night. It was an odd experience, especially for someone that doesn't enjoy dancing in the slightest, but promises are promises. The youngest group was fun to watch (they were anywhere between 3 and 5). They were paraded out in cat and dog outfits and stood there doing their own thing, which was great.

Go Boston. Beat LA.
June 12, 2008
I apologize for this site not being updated as much lately. Getting everything ready for summer camp has been a huge strain on me, and I haven't had a whole lot of time to work on the site. I am more than half way done typing up a pretty good and entertaining Paint it Black interview, and then I'll get started on an also good and entertaining interview with Girls Guns and Glory. More album reviews will be coming soon, but I suggest snatching up everythng that Bridge 9 has released, especially Nothing to Prove by h2o. Once camp starts on Monday and the routine settles in, updates should be pouring in like a flood.

Everybody loves bubble wrap, and now people can enjoy them from the comfort of their computer. Don't forget to check out manic mode.
May 18, 2008
Singer/songwriter Brandon James will be releasing his debut full length, The Day is Brave, on June 3. You can check out a preview of his forthcoming album here. I'm looking forward to hearing this whole album, as he has the songwriting chops to make a splash in the music world. The songs are catchy and uplifting, a nice comfortable album to relax to during the summer months.
May 18, 2008
nIf Brandon James is a little too much on the light side, check out some new songs from death metal Gods, Unleashed here. They were kind enough to put two news songs from their upcoming release, Hammer Battalion.
May 4, 2008
If you're impatient and can't wait until Tuesday to check out the incredible new Millencolin album, Machine 15, you can stream it on their Myspace page. Now, if they would only play a show in the US, I'd be stoked.
May 4, 2008
After scaring the living shit out of their faithful fans, the Boston Celtics game was a lot of fun to watch today. It was a blowout, never even close, but I had a smile on my face the whole time. Here's hoping that they can take care of LeBron James and the Cavs.
April 10, 2008
My lack of posted means that I haven't been able to add my two cents to some new songs that have been posted. Lucky for me that this is more of an opinion site instead of a news site, so I can basically do things at my own leisure. Anyway, here are four links to Myspace pages with some bands I dig that are soon to release albums.
I don't think I have a favorite H2O album, as they have some great songs on ALL of their releases (even Go and All We Want had some gems), and the two songs they've released from Nothing to Prove sound as good as any song they've written. They have that classic H2O melody with a great hardcore edge. The album, probably the album I am most excited about this year, drops on May 27 via Bridge 9.
Also being released by Bridge 9 is a new EP from New Found Glory. They give fans a taste of Tip of the Iceberg with the title track on their Myspace page. The song is faster and harder than what people are used to from this band, but its everything that I always knew that they had in them to write. This album, which is a split with their ulter ego Internation Superheroes of Hardcore, drops on April 29.
Speaking of ulter egos, I really like the garage rock of Foxboro Hot Tubs, which is the members of Green Day playing a different style. You can download these songs, but I would also suggest buying the 7". This band is much much better than The Network, and their full length drops on May 13.
Finally, people always seem to wait years for new Shai Hulud material, and they have finally thrown a bone with the song "Misantrophy Pure," from the upcoming album of the same name. The song is pretty good, a marked improvement over their last album, but it seems to lack something. Regardless, they're still better than most of the bands playing the style today, and I am eagerly awaiting the album.
April 10, 2008
I know that I should post more in this section, but it always seems to slip my mind for whatever reason. Things that don't slip my mind are going to shows, but I've been having a lot of trouble accomplishing that for various reasons. My latest heartbreaker was missing Murder by Death and O'Death, two bands I adore. I knew when I woke up at 5:30 a.m. that I wouldn't be able to go to the show, and I woke up 24 hours after in complete regret, and not all that extra rested. I hate weekdays.
March 23, 2008
I've noticed that my musical tastes have alter somewhat as I've gotten older. Yes, I still listen to a lot of punk, metal, hardcore, etc., but in the past few years, I've gotten into country, blues, folk and bluegrass. The latest genre I seem to be leaning towards is the singer/songwriter. I know that this could fit into the three categories that I wrote in the last sentence, but I'm also noticing my tastes go towards pop sensibilities, and I will now always check out an artist if they're a singer/songwriter.
Brendan James is a singer songwriter from New York who plays folk pop music. The songs are relaxing, catchy and fun to listen to. He sort of reminds me of James Blunt, but without the super high voice. His album, The Day is Brave, will be hitting stores sometime in June, with an EP being released before that.
Lily Haydn
has more of a classical sound to her music, especially with her violin led songs, and she rocks the violin like few others. Her voice and songs are beautiful. Her album, Place Between Places, drops April 1.
March 12, 2008
Getting sick really sucks. Updates may be a little slow this week, as I've either been in bed or at the doctor's office for the past two days. I'm feeling a little better, but I'm sure spending 12 hours at work won't make me feel like doing much when I get home.
March 2, 2008
This should be a good week for live music. Paint it Black and Strike Anywhere today, possibly Reason to Fight tomorrow, Nightmare of You on Tuesday and Foxy Shazam on Wednesday. I may not see all of these shows, but it feels good to want to go to concerts again.
March 2, 2008
I wish life wasn't so confusing.
February 26, 2008
Surprisingly enough, I actually have music to post. I found these two on Myspace, and they've blown me away. Both bands are unsigned with self released CDs, but I'm hoping that doesn't last for long.
History is a fast as hell melodic hardcore punk band. They blow through their songs with such venom and anger, making for some wonderful tunes.
Blackstar should be on Epitaph. They have the keyboard driven style that are selling albums right now, except that the style they play is old Epitaph style punk rock. This is a band that would make everybody happy. Their songs have a lot of heart to them, and I hope to hear more about them soon.
February 23, 2008
As if 2008 hasn't sucked enough for me so far, I ended up getting the flu today, having to miss a friend's wedding and the Loved Ones, Gaslight Anthem, The Ergs and LaGrecia. I was really looking forward to today, but ended up spending it in bed. The Gaslight Anthem interview will be rescheduled, and there should be more interviews on the way. Keep a lookout.
February 18, 2008
These next two weeks should be exciting here at The Playlist. Interviews with Chiodos, Gasoline Heart, A Day to Remember, Paint it Black and Foxy Shazam. I'm also trying to set up interviews with Dusty Rhodes and the River Band, Fake Problems and Sharks Come Cruising (a local punk rock band that sounds like rogue pirate music. I'm also gonna be trying to set up more interviews as the months pass on. Keep an eye out.
February 13, 2008
Two Myspace pages to check out: Torche have released a song from their upcoming Hydra Head debut, Meanderthal (which will see the light of day on April 8). The song is called Piranha and can be heard here.
I also fell in love with Team Robespierre. They're a dancy punk band that hooked me right in. I need to pick up Everything's Perfect, which should be in stores now.
When I meant two Myspace pages, I actually meant three. Lambgoat posted that Paint it Black posted a new song. The song is called "We Will Not", and is unsurprisingly awesome. There's bits of experimentation with sounds on this track, which only adds to the awesomeness that I mentioned in the previous sentence. New Lexicon will be out on February 19 via Jade Tree.
February 13, 2008
The past ten days have been absolute Hell, and I still have more to go. Its a time like this when I wished that I read Dante's "Inferno," so I could figure out what level of Hell I'm at right now. Reading that book will definitely be a book on my "To Read" list this year, once I find it.
February 3, 2008
I've been looking for the original version of "Rocket '88," which was written by Ike Turner but credited to Jackie Brenston because he sang it (or so the story goes). According to the story from Sun Records, it was the first song ever to use distortion, and that was only because the guitar amp fell off the truck the guys were driving to the studio. Its a great track, and I thought I finally found it yesterday, at Armageddon, of all places, but it turned out to be a redone version by Mr. Turner. Its still a great track, but my quest continues (I'll probably end up paying a buck to get it from iTunes).
February 3, 2008
I'm really hoping to see a New England Patriots win tonight, to seal the 19-0 historic record. Its an amazing feat, and its cool that a local team is doing it. I'm really hoping that all of the Spygate stories coming out now are false, cause I don't want this team to be associated with cheating. I also read that one guy said that he feared for his family if he said anything else. I thought it was Eric Mangini that was tight with Tony Soprano.
February 3, 2008
wI realized that my plan to post new reviews while still updating the other ones failed shortly after I made that post two weeks ago. Like a typical person suffering from apathy and exhaustion, I did nothing, until today. I am again working in full force to get everything back up to speed while still writing new reviews. Some reviews may not be on the site for (hopefully) this week, as I have 42 album reviews I need to update, but everything should look somewhat normal soon.
January 16, 2008
I'm pretty sure that I have figured out a way to post new reviews as I'm working on updating the older ones, which didn't work out as well as I'd hope. I am still working on stuff, but there are new reviews that you can enjoy reading. I have also posted the Year End Review, which is in the article section. Thank you for everyone's patience.
January 2, 2008
I am slowly getting everything in order, but its taking longer than I anticipated, mostly due to laziness and being overwhelmed with life. I am still writing reviews, and have a bunch I need to post. I am thinking of making a second review page with the newer reviews while I am updating the other ones. I am also working on the Quarterly Review and the Year End Recommendations. I have everything written on paper. Its just a matter of typing everything up. There are a lot of categories this year, as a lot of great music was released.
December 31, 2007
The Mac Top is fixed, which has turned into a blessing and a curse, since the PC/MAC combination doesn't like working for me. I have to transfer all reviews and such written since September over, which is going to be a gigantic pain in the ass. I have a lot of new reviews to write as well, and I haven't quite figured out how I am going to work through a smooth transistion. My goal to not suck at life in 2007 failed horribly, with this being only the latest example.
December 27, 2007
Due to stupidity, I completely forgot to post my 2007/2008 NBA predictions. I did write this soon into the season, and I just realized today that I never posted the article. Feel free to check it out here. I can already see where I will be very wrong. How the hell could I think that the Knicks could make the playoffs?
December 27, 2007
I have written down a long list of albums that I am hoping to review before 2008. While this is an unlikely goal, especially with my lack of motivation and difficulty getting out of bed at times, but it is one that I am going to work very hard at accomplishing. Either way, expect a shitload (which, according to an old economics teacher I had, is an actual term used in economics) of reviews to come out within the next few days. I'll also working on both the Year End Review and the Quarterly Review. Expect both of them before the years end, or sometime after.
December 15, 2007
Surprisingly enough, I am making posts two days in a row, but I just heard this band Cambridge (from Florida, not Massachusetts) on Myspace, and I'm digging their piano driven indie pop songs. Oddly enough, the guy from the band posted the link in a Lambgoat thread. Check out their music here.
December 14, 2007
I would like to give a sincere "Fuck You" to the seven cars who drove me my car that was stuck on a hill last night and did not offer any type of assistance. They actually seemed to get mad at me, as if I purposely created a snowstorm so my car would get stuck just to piss them off. I could vent about this for at least a few more paragraphs, but I'll stop now.
November 25, 2007
I'm not sure why I haven't posted this link yet, but Paint it Black posted a new song, Past Tense, Future Perfect from their forthcoming album, New Lexicon, which will be released via Jade Tree. This is a great song from what I'm sure is going to be a great album.
November 21, 2007
I probably shouldn't be listening to sad songs right now, but I just can't damn help it. Gasoline Heart, quite possibly one of the saddest sounding bands I've heard in awhile (even more so than some Lucero and Drag the River songs) have released a new album and have some new songs on their Myspace, which are damn near perfect. The vocals are great, as is the sad rock and roll energy. Think Bruce Springsteen on depressents after a breakup in a dance hall with Drag the River, Lucero and The Gaslight Anthem. Yes, they're that good.
November 21, 2007
I am starting to believe that Xanex and Everything Sucks by The Descendents can cure almost anything.
November 4, 2007
I know that this is late in the game, but I haven't seen it covered too many other places, besides Lambgoat. The world lost an amazing drummer a few days ago when Decapitated's kit burner Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka gave in to head injuries that some band members suffered in a car accident in Russia. I only have one Decapitated album, The Negation, but this was an incredibly talented band all across the board. Best wishes go out to his bandmates (hope the other injured members have a speedy recovery) and his family.
November 4, 2007
I've been a bit on a CD buying binge lately, but I couldn't bring myself to buy Taking Back Sunday's Notes From the Past. I have most of these songs already, as its mostly stuff from Tell All Your Friends and Where You Want to Be. I've got to say that Victory did a much better job with Kill the House Lights by Thursday, which has new and unreleased songs, as well as a bonus DVD.
November 4, 2007
Today is the big day for any football fan, especially fans of the Colts and Patriots. I can't help but think that the Pats will win this game, as they just seem to be better than everyone else this year, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Colts take it at home.
October 20, 2007
This has been a really shitty year as far as missing concerts due to illness has gone, and this week was no different. In just over a week, I have missed such enjoyable bands as Tiger Army, Street Dogs, Chiodis, Alesana, The Lawrence Arms, American Steel, Sundowner, The Falcon, A Wilhelm Scream and Only Crime. Thankfully, I was able to drag myself out to catch Bouncing Souls, World Inferno Friendship Society and Modern Life is War last night.
September 16, 2007
I may not be around for the next couple days, so plesae bear with me. Feel free to check out the back log of content that this site has to offer. Also, the charger on my computer isn't working right now, so updates may be a bit sporadic. I'm hoping that it will come around soon.
September 11, 2007
I gave links on Sunday for some pretty good songs. I can't believe that I forgot to mention "But You Are Vast" by Crime in Stereo. This is a great song that should leave everyone listening to it super excited for October 23, 20007, when Crime in Stereo is Dead hits stores.
September 11, 2007
Without sounding cliche, take a moment to think of all the horror our nation suffered six years ago. Many lives were lost, others ruined, and it completely changed the world as we know it (or maybe just the country). I don't think anything good really came of this day, which brings me to a quote I once read in a comic strip: "I miss September 10."
September 9, 2007
Here are some new songs that are worth checking out. Granted, you could have easily seen these links at other sites, but now you can get them here as well.
Dillenger Escape Plan-"Fix Your Face" This song is fast and crazy, pretty similar to Calculating Infinity, only slightly easier to follow.
Coheed and Cambria-"The Running Free" This song is alright. Its a decent song, but it doesn't blow me away. It hasn't deterred me from checking out their new album when it comes out, however.
Dropkick Murphys-"The State of Massachusetts" I like this song a lot. It is one of the best songs that Dropkick Murphys have ever written. Its gritty and a good song to sing along to, soon to be an anthem, even if it is about children in need (which I think is a powerful subject and I give them props for the subject).
August 31, 2007
Anti Flag have just released a new song on their Myspace, entitled "No Paradise". The song is a part of an upcoming EP they are releasing called A Benefit For Victims of Violent Crime, with the proceeds "going to the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime (www.cvvc.org), a national organization dedicated to assisting families affected by the tragic loss of loved ones." The song is a good song and this is for a good cause, so I would consider taking the time to check it out if I were you. The album will be released on October 2 through A-F Records.
August 25, 2007
I'm seven songs into the new Cartel album, and I'm having trouble figuring out what they were thinking with this album. There are some catchy songs, but everything is clouded with saxophones, trumpets and keys, giving them a pop punk soul feel. I don't understand why they didn't just stick to the formula that got them to Epic Records in the first place. Regardless, this is still going to rocket to Top 40 radio.
August 16, 2007
Today marks the 30th anniversary of Elvis' death. It has only been recently that I really got into him, but his impact on music (especially rock and roll), regardless of what your personal opinion on him is, is undeniable. Even though the songs weren't his, and the "rock and roll style" (at least according to the Jerry Lee Lewis biography "Firestorm") was ten years old, Elvis made everything famous. I put a lot of thought into this, especially since visiting Memphis (Graceland, Sun Records, Beale Street), and I don't think music would be quite the same had he not taken the initiative to try and get to Sam Philips at Sun Records. I don't know what the music world would be like today, but the landscape would be different. That, I do know.
August 16, 2007
Being the complete moron that I am, I completely forgot that Black Cobra was playing at AS220 last night, AND that Four Year Strong were playing at The Living Room. I didn't realize it until almost 24 hours after the fact. This has been a tough year for shows for me.
August 11, 2007
Everything with the site isn't as normal as I originally thought. I had to switch a few links when I was using my PC, and now I have to redirect everything. This will be a pain in the ass, but I am working on it. In the meantime, check out Metal Blade's newest signing, Brain Drill. The name is silly, but the band is pretty impressive, and very fast.
August 7, 2007
It seems like things are up and running back to normal. The MacTop is working again, and I'm updating everything to make sure that the writing is up to date. I'll be checking through the site, but please contact me if something doesn't look right.
August 2, 2007
I should have mentioned that I took a vacation to Tennessee for the past few days, which explains why there haven't been any new updates or reviews. There will be some random thoughts about the trip coming soon, though I will state that any fan of music should check out both Memphis and Nashville, as the historical significance of both cities is inspiring.
July 23, 2007
I just finished reading "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemmingway, and I must say that it is not only a super quick read, but it is also one of the saddest stories that I have ever read. It teaches the lesson that no matter how hard you fight to succeed, failure is always circling you like a hungry shark. Its heartbreaking in its truthfulness.
July 19, 2007
In a crazy turn of events, Victory will be releasing an album by Taking Back Sunday on October 30. More information will be released soon, but it should also be noted that they will also be releasing a CD/DVD from Thursday the same day. I was a little surprised when I read this, but good luck to all involved. I would be even morely (a made up word, I know) impressed if they can get a new release from Grey Area.
July 11, 2007
Please bear with me, as things may be going a little slower in the next coming weeks. My MacTop won't charge, which is where I usually update this site. So now, instead of using the pretty easy Dreamweaver, I am trying to remember how to use HTML. I will still be writing Album Reviews, but I haven't tried to do anything having to do with pictures (the reason Amber Pacific is still the Album of the Week). I will be working on this problem, which will eventually include a trip to Comp USA in hopes of them fixing my MacTop. Wish me luck.
June 24, 2007
I had a crazy dream not too long ago. I usually forget dreams the second I wake up, but this one stayed with me. I was at what looked like an upstairs bar or loft (or a combination of the two) at a Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies show. I think I interviewed them, but I could be wrong. They opened with "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam, and I remember giggling when they started playing the beginning bass line (I don't know why, since I still enjoy and respect Pearl Jam). After that, I fell asleep and woke up after they were finished. I was pretty upset because that would probably be the only time I would ever see them, and I didn't know how I would explain the lack of show review to Vanessa at Fat. Somehow in that dream, something also came up about The Descendents touring. That, I really wish would come true.
June 24, 2007
I am pretty notorious for not updating this section. Its not that I have nothing to write about, but I'm usually quite lazy, and I try not to post regular news or songs without an opinion. Plus, I've been super busy the past few weeks preparing for the summer, and losing my voice recorder and wallet didn't help (I guess I wrote about this last time, but oh well).
The next few weeks should see interviews with I am the Pilot, Kill Your Idols, The Tossers, Astrea and a few others that I'm working on setting up. There will also be articles about grief, King Diamond and the Quarterly Review. There will also be some film, DVD and book reviews that I am hoping I can find (I lost the hand written copies). I hope everyone has a great summer and thanks for reading this site.
June 11, 2007
I'm still not sure how I feel about the final episode of The Sopranos. It was a letdown, with nothing happening (unless you've listened to some of the theories), but it was a big "fuck you" to the audience, which I'm always a fan of.
The season premier of Big Love was pretty decent. I really like how only two weeks passed since the last episode of the first season, and it is definitely an episode that has me hooked for the rest of the season.
June 11, 2007
Last week was a pretty damn crazy week, with me losing both my voice recorder (which had interviews with King Diamond, The Red Chord, Alesana and Propagandhi) and my wallet. I will be writing an article based on this (dealing with the five stages of grief) in the near future, as well as writing an article about King Diamond's upcoming album and the confidence that he has towards it. Be on the lookout.
May 28, 2007
The new album, Blackhawks Over Los Angeles, is incredible. The songs are super catchy and will have people talking about them again. I wouldn't be surprised if this album, which will be released on June 12 via Fat, will bring this band back to their past popularity. Check out "Calling" here.
May 28, 2007
Do you think you have what it takes to eat the world's largest burger? This beast is in New Jersey and is absolutely ridiculous. Friends and I are going to train and give 105 pounds of food a whirl.
May 21, 2007
I highly suggest checking out the AOL stream of Truth in Sincerity by Amber Pacific. This is truly a great album of catchy fast pop punk, and an album that I'm sure will get lots of playing time over the summer.
May 15, 2007
While surfing the net, I came across this death metal band from Illinois called Desecrate the Hour. These guys remind me of Dying Fetus with the absolute insane guitar riffs, but the vocals are a little harsher. They don't have a record label, but they do have an album, Between the Vines of Destruction, that I will be picking up soon.
Since you're already on Myspace, you should also check out the new Bad Religion song, "Honest Goodbye." Its on the slower, punk rock ballad side, but it is still undeniably Bad Religion. Their new album drops on July 10 on Epitaph.
May 8, 2007
As expected, local talk radio has gone nuts since Roger Clemens surprisingly signed with the Yankees. The night show had 100 reasons why he hates Clemens. Everyone is saying how he is now washed up, even though they were practically sniffing his jock only last week. While I'll always be a die hard Cubs fan, I do follow the Red Sox (its hard not to being from New England), and I want them to win (unless they play my Cubs). I also feel that baseball is at its best when the Red Sox are battling the Yankees, and hopefully the acquisition of Clemens will ensure that happens again this year, although I feel that the Sox are still the better team.
April 22, 2007
The first three episodes of the final season of The Sopranos have been relatively uneventful. It seems like nothing is going to happen. The episodes have been alright, but I haven't watched anything all that intriguing yet. Here's hoping it gets better.
April 15, 2007
Nathan Grey, formerly of Boy Sets Fire, has a new band called Casting Out, which also features former Boy Sets Fire guitarist Joshua Latshaw. They are similar to Boy Sets Fire (hard not to since they share the same singer), but Casting Out features piano and are a little more rock based. The songs from their demo, which can be downloaded here, have a sad tinge to them, which is probably part of the reason why I like them so much.
April 15, 2007
I was watching Real Time with Bill Mahr last night, and he had Al Sharpton on, talking about the Don Imus/Rutgers girls basketball team fiasco. While I understand both sides (free speech vs. worded racism), I don't have a strong opinion either way. It was a pretty intense interview, with the Reverend not amused by some of Mahr's jokes and comments. I was really hoping that Mahr would ask Sharpton if he would now apologize to the Duke lacross players that were falsly accused of raping an African American stripper. I figured that if anyone had the balls to ask that, it would be Mahr.
April 12, 2007
America should be mourning the death of Kurt Vonneget, quite possibly one of this country's greatest writers ever. I was very sad to read the news of his passing today, as I always hoped that I would somehow be able to meet him. Even though he is dead, he is a man who will live forever in his writing.
April 8, 2007
I encourage everyone to check out Grinderman, the new project from Nick Cave. The songs are great garage rock numbers with pounding beats and awesome vocals. Check out their Myspace page for some actual songs, or their website for clips to songs as well as some other goodies. This album drops April 10 via Anti.
April 7, 2007
Joey Cape is back on track with writing sad songs, this time with his new project, Afterburner. This project is much sadder than Bad Astronaut ever was, which makes me enjoy them that much more. I really hope that these guys release something in the very near future.
April 7, 2007
Deep Elm's newest signing, 500 Miles to Memphis is a country punk masterpiece. The songs are super fun to listen to, a band that I'm betting will soon be spoken in the same breath as bands like Lucero and Drag the River.
March 27, 2007
Absolute Punk has reported that British hardcore punk band, Gallows, has signed with Epitaph. I checked out their Myspace page, and they play some damn good tunes. I highly suggest checking them out. While reading the message boards, someone recommended another UK hardcore punk band called The Ghost of a Thousand. I checked them out, and they're even better. I highly suggest checking out both bands, as they each bring something special to the hardcore table.

"The Winner," the new Fox show starring Rob Corddry, looks like its going to be a pretty good show. The first episode had some pretty hysterical and off beat moments, some that were very "Family Guy"-esque, that had me cracking up. It is very sitcom-ish, with many predictable moments that I've seen before, but, it is a sitcom.

Is it wrong that I really wanted to watch the 24 Season 6 DVD, even though I've only watched the first two so far and won't be watching the rest of this one until the DVD is released, because I wanted to see a nuclear bomb go off on television? Its a really strange feeling to know that I am so decensitized that I am actually eager to view something like this.

I was in quite a conundrum today trying to decide whether or not I should go see Lifetime or Converge and The Red Chord. I wanted to try to get to both, as one started at 4 and the other at 7, but I ended up being sick and not doing anything besides staying in bed all day. I'm sure both shows were amazing, and I already regret not going to either.

Speaking of The Red Chord, Beyond the Sixth Seal (featuring Mike McKenzie and Greg Weeks of The Red Chord) have reformed as a studio band, meaning that they are going to be releasing albums but not playing live shows. This is pretty exciting, as Beyond the Sixth Seal was one of the first metalcore bands that I got into, and their new material is damn good.

The new Comeback Kid album, Broadcasting..., arrived in the mail the other day, and it is a truly wonderful album. They are still playing fast, melodic and aggressive hardcore like on Wake the Dead, but there are also parts that are similar to Snapcase and Modern Life is War, making for a start to finish thrilling listen. Pick it up on February 20 when it drops on Victory.

The new song from Comeback Kid is quite incredible. I was blown away from start to finish, and am now very damn excited about checking out Broadcasting when it drops February 20, 2007 on Victory.

I finally watched "Snakes on a Plane," the movie so highly touted by everybody. There was so much hype that some jackass walked by me at Warped Tour yelling "snakes on a plane" to me for no apparant reason. I'm a huge fan of bad B Horror movies, but this one was difficult to watch. Everything was too predictable and cheesy as all hell. I know thats what they were aiming for, but this had me eagerly waiting for the ending.

The new Hot Cross song, "Fatefully," is a damn good song that has me extremely excited for Risk Revival, which drops on February 20 via Hope Division/Equal Vision. It took me about a quarter of the song to be rocking out to the music and the more melodic vocals, totally falling for the song. I expect great things from this album.

Fans of Hank III should check out his Myspace page to check out "Tennessee Driver" by Assjack, his old punk band. The song is decent, although it pales in comparison to their live show. You should also check out Arson Anthem, a band that he plays drums in that also features Philip H. Anselmo on vocals. The YouTube song is kind of gritty and unclear, but it has me excited to hear their album that I guess will be released in February.

Back to back days of posting some snippets is quite an accomplishment for someone as lazy as myself, but maybe 2007 is becoming a new leaf (probably not). I was researching some labels tonight when I came across two with some really cool bands. The first, Higher Step Records, is a good rock label. The three bands I've listened to (Emily Shrine, Panic Strikes a Chord and Tremendous F*cking) are all damn good, and I look forward to checking out what the rest of the bands on the roster have to offer.
Missing Words Records is a pretty good punk rock label. I've only checked out two bands so far (Ashtray Life who sound similar to The Weakerthans and Hooray for Everything who play melodic punk rock), but they're both pretty tight, again leaving me excited to check out the rest of the roster.

I really didn't understand why the Patriots/Jets game wasn't on Saturday night, which I thought was reserved for what should be the game of the week. This game had the best storyline with the coaches and the rivalry and all that, but the Pats pretty much dominated in what was (unless the Eagles or Giants go on a huge run) the biggest point differential of the weekend.

A sincere congratulations goes out to Earth for successfully making its way around the sun. Good job. Eventually, I will be unlazy enough to post some music news and/or opinions.
