Sorry, Meryl Streep Won't Be In 'Anchorman 2,' But Greg Kinnear & Josh Lawson Join

Meryl StreepAbout a week ago, word start burbling around the interwebs that Meryl Streep was looking to cameo in “Anchorman: The Legend Continues.” Speaking with Shortlist, Steve Carell said about his “Hope Springs” co-star: “Meryl Streep told me she was a huge ‘Anchorman‘ fan and she’d love to have a cameo in the sequel. That could be really funny. There are going to be plenty of great cameos in this movie.” And while that notion is a fun one to think about, alas, it has not come pass.

More recently, Carell caught up with E! and quashed any rumors that Streep was “begging” to be in the sequel, saying, “Yes she was a fan. But there’s no validity to that.” And he considers it all just an idea that was lightly thrown around and never discussed again. “I jokingly said, ‘You should be in it,'” he explained. “Meryl said, ‘Could you imagine?’ And it was just that.”

However, with the shooting underway, there are some more names being added, with Deadline reporting that Greg Kinnear and “House Of Lies” star Josh Lawson are both on board. Their roles? Unknown. But they join a huge cast that includes Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, Christina Applegate, Harrison Ford, Kristen Wiig, James Marsden, Meagan Good and Dylan Baker, so they’ll have to be on their toes.

So what do we do until the movie hits on December 20th? How about watching Carell channel Brick Tamland on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” running down the Top Plays (via FilmDrunk).
