Rian Johnson Shot Something For ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

We live in a world where everything remotely resembling news about “Star Wars” gets analyzed and discussed ad nauseum. Of course, this really isn’t anything new but has been greatly exacerbated in recent years, when Disney bought Lucasfilm and began making more entries in the franchise. So, because it’s “Star Wars” related, and thus needs to be thoroughly discussed, director Colin Trevorrow has dropped a bit of news about the upcoming untitled “Episode IX” – Rian Johnson directed part of it!

Well, not really, but technically it’s true. In an episode of MTV’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Trevorrow was being interviewed, and as per usual, he’s asked a “Star Wars” question. Was there any requests made from Trevorrow for ‘The Last Jedi’ Johnson to be included in the film so that they set up ‘Episode IX?’

“There was one little thing,” Trevorrow said. “It wasn’t an adjustment, it was just ‘Could you shoot this one extra thing while you’re in this place on this day?’ And he did, which was great.”

“It’s part of the collaborative process that exists – everyone is in communication,” he added. “There’s such a genuine want to get this right from everybody, and I think that one of the misconceptions is that there’s some kind of great corporate overlord that is dictating this story to everybody, and that’s what it’s going to be because that’s going to sell the most toys.”

This question stems from the fairly recent news that Johnson had asked ‘The Force Awakens’ director J.J. Abrams to make sure that R2-D2 would be accompanying Rey when she reached Luke. So, now it seems as if there’s still synergy among directors for the last two installments of this new trilogy. Now, the question must be asked, “What did Trevorrow ask Johnson to film?”

Clearly, judging by the way Trevorrow said it, odds are the bit was hardly anything of consequence. In actuality, it is probably a minor scene (if a scene at all). Maybe it was just some location footage that doesn’t even have any characters in it? It’s probably something so inconsequential that fans will ultimately be let down.

However, this is 2017, and fans must know the answers to everything “Star Wars.” Let the speculation begin! Listen to the full conversation below. [via Comic Book]
