'Star Wars Rebels' May Retell ‘Rogue One’ Battle In An Upcoming Episode, Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera To Return

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” had its fair share (or more) of Easter eggs. From “blink and you’ll miss it” cameos to familiar ships in the background, ‘Rogue One’ isn’t afraid of embracing ‘Star Wars’ long history. One such Easter Egg that many viewers probably missed on their first viewing was the Ghost ship featured in “Star Wars Rebels” animated series.

In the background on Yavin 4 and in the final battle on Scarif, the Ghost was shown to be in the middle of the action throughout ‘Rogue One.’ ‘Rebels’ executive producer and director Dave Filoni thinks this is perhaps an opportunity for the animated series. While discussing the Easter eggs with EW, Filoni teased, “I already have some theories about the story behind it. I can imagine doing that entire [Scarif] battle from their point of view, whoever is on the Ghost at that point.”

Fans of ‘Rebels’ may have already heard the news that Forest Whitaker is set to reprise his Saw Guerra character in the upcoming season of ‘Rebels,’ so is a more specific ‘Rogue One’-inspired episode not far behind? So far, Disney has kept their Star Wars universe pretty streamlined and hasn’t really had the opportunity yet to have clear crossovers between the movies and TV. If Filoni goes through with his idea, ‘Rebels’ and ‘Rogue One’ would have the first major crossover since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012.
