Steve McQueen's Upcoming Video For Kanye West Was Shot As A Single 9-Minute Take

12 Years A Slave, Steve McQueenEarlier this spring, it was revealed that "Shame" and "12 Years A Slave" helmer Steve McQueen had directed a music video for Kanye West‘s upcoming album, the currently titled SWISH, and it has already screened at Paris Fashion Week. Now, the video is slated to make its stateside debut this weekend at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and a few more details have been revealed about the promo.

The New York Times reports that the video runs 9-minutes long, and most intriguingly, it’s done in a single-take as Yeezy "runs, crouches, dodges, raps, rants, sweats and pants, as if being pursued by the camera or the police or in pursuit himself, until he slumps against the wall to catch his breath." It would appear the mini-movie of sorts will feature two songs, "All Day" and "I Feel Like That," and basically, I can’t wait to see it.

McQueen is no stranger to long takes. "Hunger" features a 23-minute static shot of Bobby Sands’s conversation with a Belfast priest, "12 Years A Slave" leaves the camera lingering on a brutal lynching sequence, and "Shame" features a lengthy date scene. The innate power of these scenes derives from McQueen’s balance of framing and drama. It’ll be fascinating see what he’s put together for Kanye.

LACMA will screen the video for four days only starting on Saturday. No word yet if it will land online, but presumably, it’ll probably drop whenever Kanye decides to drop his next, already hyped album. [via FACT]
