You’re gonna need a bigger bag of popcorn this summer. Along with George Lucas‘ "Star Wars," Steven Spielberg‘s "Jaws" is cited as a catalyst for blockbuster era, which after three decades and change is no longer an "era" as much as the status quo for Hollywood. If you’ve never seen the director’s iconic movie, next month you can experience what made everyone get out of the water in 1975 for the first time (or all over again).

On Sunday, June 21st and Wednesday, June 24th at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. local time, Fathom Events will be broadcasting "Jaws" to theaters around the country, with TCM‘s Ben Mankiewicz introducing the movie. And while Spielberg’s movie has played perfectly fine at home for forty years, the chance to see it on a massive screen should be a real treat. It will be interesting to see how his movie holds up against today’s blockbusters standards, which emphasizes maximum bang for the audience buck, versus Spielberg’s movie which details the art of building to a nerve-wracking tension before letting any big fireworks go off.
So make room in your summer multiplex schedule for this —it’ll certainly be worth it. [THR]
