'Strange Angel' Trailer: David Lowery & Jack Reynor Team For Rocket Scientist Show

CBS All Access is known, as of now, as the go-to place for “Star Trek: Discovery” and…ummm… “Big Brother live feeds? Okay, so maybe the only reason now to purchase a subscription for All Access is “Star Trek,” but soon there’s another series that you might want to check out on the streaming service – “Strange Angel.”

“Strange Angel” tells the story of Jack Parsons, renowned father of rocket scientist, who stumbles into the work of sex magick and becomes friends with none other than occultist Aleister Crowley. In the first teaser for the series, from director David Lowry, we meet Parsons, played by Jack Reynor, as he is a humble blue-collar worker, with dreams of something larger. As he becomes the more involved with the study of rockets, he also discovers the mysterious world of the occult.

As mentioned, the pilot episode of “Strange Angel” is directed by Lowry, who is best known for his films “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” and “A Ghost Story.” The series stars Reynor, who rebounded from being a creepy, maybe-sexual predator in “Transformers: Age of Extinction” to a likable older brother in the underrated “Sing Street.” Also starring in the series is Bella Heathcote, Rupert Friend, Peter Mark Kendall, and Zack Pearlman. The series is also executive produced by legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott.

The series makes its debut on the subscription-based CBS streaming service on June 14.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Strange Angel, a drama series created by Mark Heyman (Black Swan, The Wrestler) and based on George Pendle’s book of the same name, explores the dramatic intersection between genius and madness, science and science fiction. The story follows the life of Jack Parsons, a mysterious and brilliant man in 1940s Los Angeles, who by day helps birth the entirely unknown discipline of American rocketry, and by night is a performer of sex magick rituals and a disciple to occultist Aleister Crowley.
