'Taken' Prequel Show And 'The Mist' Series In The Works

Taken The MistThe golden age of television may be giving many reasons to believe in the small screen again, but let’s face it: stuff like "The Big Bang Theory" still dominates and tends to be the most popular entertainment on the dial. Networks know that to keep the lights on, they gotta go broad, so bear that in mind as you read on.

Over at NBC, Luc Besson is keeping his lucrative "Taken" franchise alive, with the network ordering a prequel show, straight to series. The concept for this is not complicated: it will show how young Bryan Mills got that special set of skills he uses as an old man in three films to kill various bad guys who threaten his life and family. Theres’s no writer or showrunner yet, but obviously NBC is pretty hot on the idea to give it the greenlight with nothing on the page yet.

Meanwhile, MTV and Dimension Television are going to try and succeed where "Under The Dome" failed by bringing Stephen King‘s "The Mist" to TV. Of course, Frank Darabont already turned it into a somewhat well-regarded movie, and this new series will take cues from both the book and movie to tell the tale of a small town where the titular weather brings out the monsters both literal and figurative. Christian Torpe, behind the Danish show "Rita," will be writing for "The Mist," and we’ll see how they can sustain the concept over multiple episodes and seasons. [THR/ComingSoon]
