Takeshi Kitano Gets Ruthless In New Trailer For 'Outrage Coda'

In 2010, Takeshi Kitano returned to the yakuza genre with “Outrage,” a grim, violent, and cynical look at the world of Japanese gangsters. The film played at Cannes, where it received very good notices, and it was successful enough to spawn a sequel two years later with “Outrage Beyond.” I haven’t kept up with the series, which is now getting ready to close with “Outrage Coda,” but it looks like fans will get a healthy helping of Kitano at his wildest.

Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Nao Ohmori, Toshiyuki Nishida and Pierre Taki co-star in the movie that sees Kitano reprise his role as Ôtomo (he also writes and directs the film), in the story about his return from exile from Korea, in which he spends one last movie gunning down a whole bunch of people. Again, it looks like standard for this series, which is aiming to go out with a bang.

“Outrage Coda” opens in Japan on October 7th, but is expected to make a festival debut first. I’d put a pretty good bet on Venice. [Screen Daily]
