Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer & Janelle Monáe Are The Brains Behind NASA In New Trailer For 'Hidden Figures'

There is still lots of time left in the awards season for a movie to make a late break for frontrunner status, and “Hidden Figures” could be that picture. Starting with a sneak peek at TIFF, 20th Century Fox have been slowly opening the box on their inspirational true-story drama, and so far, the buzz is that this has a chance of getting in the mix in some big categories in February. And a new trailer is blasting off to get more shine on the movie.

Starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe, Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Kimberly Quinn, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge, and Glen Powell, and directed by Theodore Melfi (“St. Vincent“), the film follows the brilliant African-American women who helped win the Space Race. Here’s the official synopsis:

HIDDEN FIGURES is the incredible untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe)—brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world.  The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.

The film opens in limited release on Christmas Day and goes wide on January 6th.
