‘Mechanic: Resurrection’: Jason Statham Returns To Bust Skulls In The First Kick-Ass Trailer [Watch]

I’ll be completely honest with you, I’ve never seen a “Crank” film, I haven’t watched any film in “The Transporter” series, and I haven’t seen 2011’s Jason Statham-led remake of “The Mechanic.” Outside of Guy Ritchie or Paul Feig films, which always play up Statham’s underrated comic abilities, I’ve rarely seen a Statham film where he’s played a traditional skull-busting tough guy. But what do I know? Statham’s lead at least three action franchises and he’s been very successful at it, so lets presume those films are more than satisfying the intended audience considering they keep making them with little reprieve.

Somewhat surprisingly, there’s only been one “Mechanic” film thus far, but that’s about to change with the belated sequel, “Mechanic: Resurrection” due out later this summer.

Starring Jason Statham, Tommy Lee Jones, Jessica Alba, and Michelle Yeoh, ‘Resurrection’ still centers on contract killer Arthur Bishop, but having narrowly escaped death from his best friend in the original film, the character is now retired. That is, until the love of his life is kidnapped by his greatest rival and he must break out the guns once more to save her. Sounds a little “Taken,” but then again these movies are usually not known for their plots, right? (I think…)

Due in theaters Aug 26 at the end of the summer—honestly, known as a dumping ground for movies—‘Resurrection’ may not move the needle with that release date, but we assume the fans will come out in full force. In any case, the first trailer for the film has arrived and you can watch it right here. And sound off below if you have thoughts.
