This Might Be Getting Ridiculous: Overstock.com Launching Streaming Service

nullNetflix, Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, Xbox Video, Sony Unlimited Video, Crackle, Hulu, Yahoo, Fandor…you’re not exactly left wanting for options when it comes to legally streaming movies and television shows. And with many of those outlets even producing their own original content, one could argue you have more choices than you could possibly need when it comes to watching something with just the click of a mouse. But yet another competitor is entering the fray, hoping to get their own slice of the digital pie.

Overstock.com — that place you go to try and get cheap drapes and bath towels — have announced they’ll be launching their own streaming service by mid-2015. The company, which claims to be only second in online retail to Amazon, is aiming for the same market as the Seattle-based, everything-selling giant, and are aiming to have their own original content too. It’s a bold plan, and while some might question how anybody will associate movie and TV streaming with Overstock, many said the same thing prior to Instant Prime Video.

"We will be a competitor to Amazon,” CEO Patrick M. Byrne said (via THR). “We think our loyalty program is better than Amazon’s. We give you five to 25 percent back on what you spend. So we pay people back for their digital downloads.” That’s certainly an original angle to enter the market on, at any rate.
