Time To Feel 'Insecure' With Trailer For HBO's Upcoming Comedy Series

If you had told us a few years ago that making a web series would lead to a deal at HBO, we would’ve said you were crazy, but times have changed. The avenues for telling stories are as varied and multifaceted as ever, and the means of production getting cheaper by the day. So when Issa Rae broke out on YouTube with “Awkward Black Girl,” it was not a total surprise that the attention she received would land her a larger gig.

Insecure” (one of our 30 Most Anticipated Fall TV Shows) finds Rae bringing her talents to HBO in a new half-hour comedy series about two black women navigating their complicated lives. And it looks like it’s going to be refreshing, breezy and quite a lot of fun. Moreover, it’ll be aiming to bring a different version of South Central Los Angeles to the screen than the typically violent version we see often see. “There’s so rich a culture and it’s extremely diverse. It’s something [Rae and executive producer Prentice Penny] know well and I want to project in the best light possible,” she told USA Today.

“Insecure” debuts on HBO on October 9th at 10:30 PM.
