Between “Public Enemies” and his currently in-production “Cyber,” Michael Mann eyed a lot of potential projects and one of them was “Go Like Hell.” And as it goes in Hollywood, some movies cross your desk and stay there and others drift away, and this one now finds itself in the hands of a duo that clearly enjoy working together.
Tom Cruise and director Joseph Kosinski may not have made the splash Universal may have wanted with “Oblivion” (it didn’t even make $90 million domestic on a $120 million budget, but wound up with $286 million and change worldwide), but Fox is willing to roll the dice on them. The pair are circling “Go Like Hell” and it will find Cruise getting into “Days Of Thunder” mode. Sorta. Based on the 2010 book by A.J. Baime, “Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans,” the movie tell the true story of Henry Ford II and Enzo Ferrari who competed for sports car dominance.
We’re frankly a little surprised any major studio is tackling a race world-related movie especially with “Rush” barely registering at the box office (despite being a crackling piece of entertainment), but we guess they know what they’re doing. No word yet on when this will go, and nothing is totally confirmed just yet, but it undoubtedly will have to wait until Cruise is done with “Mission: Impossible 5” which last we heard was aiming to start shooting by the end of this year. Cruise even bailed on Guy Ritchie‘s “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” to focus on it, so we presume that’s the first priority for him. [The Wrap]
