Trailer For Netflix's Animated 'Pacific Heat' Plays Like The Australian 'Archer'

Netflix loves its original series, and with the studio increasing output considerably in the past few years, it’s difficult to remember a time when people just went on the streaming service to watch a movie. Next month will bring yet another new offering from Netflix with  “Pacific Heat,” its latest foray into adult animation, and it seems the series wears its influences on its sleeve.

It only takes about 5 seconds to immediately see a similarity with the hugely popular FX series “Archer.” Like that show, “Pacific Heat” also features a bizarre set of characters spoofing the spy genre… but this time they’re Australian! However, it’s not just the setting that feels like “Archer” —the animation in “Pacific Heat” is very reminiscent of the Adult Swim series as well.

“Pacific Heat” tells the story of a group of undercover police officers on Australia’s affluent Gold Coast. From the footage seen in the trailer, it seems like they’re busting the standard criminals as well as Asian military types, and according to the synopsis (which you can read in full below), the inventor of frozen yogurt.

Pacific Heat is an animated comedy series, based on the exploits of a dynamic unit of undercover police investigators working on the glitzy “Gold Coast” of Australia. This glamorous, sophisticated, and sun-drenched paradise masks a hot-bed of crime; everyone from drug smugglers and biker gangs to eco-terrorists and the person who invented frozen yogurt. In order to tackle this seedy underbelly police authorities established “Pacific Heat.” This covert squad of highly trained operatives technically does not exist (although they do have their own Facebook page), but when criminals strike, “Pacific Heat” will be there; unconventional, uncompromising and unafraid to operate outside the law – provided at least one of them is wearing a fluorescent safety vest. Pacific Heat was created by the award-winning Working Dog team of Santo Cilauro, Tom Gleisner and Rob Sitch.

“Pacific Heat” arrives on December 2nd. That’ll be the day your friends ask you, “Hey, have you seen that new cartoon? It’s like ‘Archer,’ but Australian!” [Collider]
