Tribeca Film Snags 'The Comedy' Starring Tim Heidecker, Movie Will Land In October

nullGarnering a considerable amount of attention after its appearance at the Sundance Film Festival (chatter was both good and bad — this writer loved it), Rick Alverson's "The Comedy" will finally be unleashed to non-festival plebeians come this October thanks to Tribeca Film.

Featuring Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), and Kate Lyn Sheil ("Green"), the flick is a challenging piece, examining a person's lack of responsibility regarding his future. Alverson's film also dissects antagonistic humor and fruitless irony — not exactly easily digestible topics, and scenes involving Heidecker being cruel for a laugh go from amusing to tremendously uncomfortable. But the filmmaker has a faith in his audience that's rare these days, and those that go in with an open mind will find his prodding of the subjects highly intriguing.

Rough House Pictures, the production company lead by Jody Hill, Danny McBride, and David Gordon Green, came on to present the movie in late January. Before the October release, you can catch it at BAMcinemaFest in late June.
