'Tulip Fever' With Alicia Vikander, Christoph Waltz, Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne & More Given Sudden Summer Release Date

Tulip FeverThe Weinstein Company are known for being major Oscar players, releasing top-tier prestige projects, but also winding up sitting on movies when they don’t make the grade. For example, American audiences are still waiting to see the WWII tale "Suite Francaise" starring Michelle Williams and Matthias Schoenaerts, but another starry vehicle that has been lost in the wilderness has been given a release date, and it’s right around the corner.

Justin Chadwick‘s "Tulip  Fever" starring Alicia VikanderChristoph Waltz, Dane DeHaanJack O’Connell, Holliday Grainger, Cara Delevingne, Judi Dench and, Zach Galafianakis, will now open in just three months, on July 15th. And no, this isn’t some kind of J.J. Abrams/"10 Cloverfield Lane" cleverness — period dramas don’t work like that. You probably more likely call it The Weinstein Company clearing the deck, given the movie shot all the way back in 2014.

Based on the book by Deborah Moggach, the film follows the affair that blooms between a man and a woman in 17th century Holland, during a period where tulip bulbs became highly sought, and valuable items of trade. The movie had been in development as far back as 2004, before finally getting made, and while TWC showed off footage at Cannes last year, it seems they’ve kinda cooled on it, given this hasty rollout.

So, go see "Tulip Fever" on July 15th, or "Ghostbusters" or Bryan Cranston in "The Infiltrator." [THR]
