The fifth season has yet to air, but it’s not a surprise that HBO wants to keep their most popular and lucrative show, “Game Of Thrones,” running. The network has just renegotiated their contracts with the cast to include an option for a seventh season (the show is currently confirmed to run at least through season six), with a pay bump for all involved, though with a clear line in the sand between A-tier and B-tier actors. Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will be the highest paid thesps on the show, with Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), and Maisie Williams on the second rung. A seventh season hasn’t been officially given a go-ahead, but barring some kind of disaster, it’s likely to happen. [THR]
Netflix isn’t just making new shows for adults. The streaming service has just picked up a 21-episode, live-action adaptation of the cartoon “Richie Rich.” Jake Brennan will play the titular character in the show “about the richest kid in the world. After making $1 trillion by inventing and selling a cool new green technology, Richie moves into a decked-out mansion and instantly starts living the most awesome life ever. The series follows his adventures — from exploring Antarctica to making a movie with his friends and meeting famous celebrities.” Well, that sounds awful. It hits Netflix in 2015. [Deadline]
Paramount has gone to vaults and decided to turn the Richard Gere-starring 1980 flick “American Gigolo” into a TV series, just because. Jerry Bruckheimer is putting his muscle behind it, and before you ask, yes, Paul Schrader will be involved as an “executive consultant.” [Deadline]
The Archie comics are also coming to TV, but not in a format you expected at all. “Riverdale” will be a live action drama (for real) “set in the present” and offering “a bold, subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends, exploring the surreality of small-town life — the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade.” We always knew Mr. Weatherbee had some evil secrets… [Deadline]
Mike White and HBO are still working together, even if the network canceled his critically acclaimed “Enlightened.” They’ve picked up his pilot “Mamma Dallas” and it will go into production next spring with White directing. [Deadline]
