Tyler Hoechlin Is The New Small-Screen Superman

We learned earlier this month that Superman would finally be making an appearance in the second season of “Supergirl.” He had been teased through the first season, and was in touch at least digitally with his cousin Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist), but now he’ll be getting an arc of sorts in the series, and the man to play Clark Kent has been found.

THR reports that Tyler Hoechlin is your new small screen Superman. All that’s known so far is that he’ll visit National City across the first two episodes of season two, and I can only imagine they’ll be keeping what he’s up to under wraps for as long as possible. But this is a pretty big deal to have one the most iconic DC superheroes stroll into a show for a guest role. And again, I have to wonder if there’s not something more being considered.

Hoechlin featured on MTV‘s “Teen Wolf” across the first four seasons, and is undoubtedly familiar to the demographic that watches shows on The CW. So could he be groomed to lead an eventual, new Superman series? I’d wager it’s the kind of thing that’s already being spitballed, and if his portrayal of Superman is well-received, I could see those turning into real conversations. It has been a good while since “Smallville” ended, and given that there are no plans currently for another solo Superman movie, I could see WB being eager to find somewhere for the valuable property to be exploited, and TV would be a good fit.

But that’s just speculation on my part. For now, Superman will just guest on “Supergirl,” and where it goes from there, we’ll just have to wait and see.
