Starring Laila Maltz, Katia Szechtman, Lara Tarlowski, Natali Maltz, Maria Soldi, Pedro Trocca and Denise Groesman and inspired by Bela Bartok’s opera of the same name, the film tracks the coming of age of a handful of young women in Argentina. Here’s the official synopsis:

Kékszakállú is a portrait of several young women at the threshold of adulthood, feeling their way through various crises born of the insular comforts of class privilege. The torpor of boredom and leisure is undercut by the vicissitudes of Argentina’s economic malaise, forcing the offspring of a vanishing upper class to extricate themselves from the grip of familial privilege.

“Kékszakállú” premieres at the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday, September 7th.
