I was pleasantly surprised to see that Bane was selling a limited edition two song seven inch at their Ten Year Anniversary show. I quickly picked it up, as it was limited to only 450 copies. The coolest thing about this special release is that it came with an enhanced CD that, when put into a computer, took your name and address so they could send you the actual vinyl (I think vocalist Aaron Bedard said that some problem arose that prevented the vinyl from being ready for the show).
This record features an old song, "Reckoning Day," which I can't find any information about online, but I want to say was on an old straight edge comp put out many years ago by Ray Cappo (which I can't find right now but would really love to see it pop up somewhere). This is a very driving song with the drums leading the way, their triplet time signature towards the end giving the music a very epic feel. The bass line is quite memorable, and sounds so good over the held guitar notes, especially when leading up to the end of the song. There are plenty of pile up and sing along parts, and plenty of parts for people to just go nuts to. This is a very aggressive song that I'm glad has been "rediscovered" in a way.
The second song is a Bjork cover that they recorded for a tribute comp that never came out. I'm not a huge Bjork fan, so I don't really know any of her songs (I could pick out one song, I think, if I heard it), but Bane turn this cover into their own. I can't see many people without prior knowledge of this song not taking it for an original. This song has the syncopated guitar lines (mixed in with slower melodic riffs) and drawn out vocals of Bedard leading the way, making headbanging (or, at the very least, nodding to the beat) an automatic. This is a very cool song that I am definitely glad saw the light of day.
