I bought this album yesterday, finding that awesome looking picture disc was much cooler looking than their CD, and well worth the four extra dollars. I wasn't able to listen to it when I got home from work, instead, falling asleep watching the Guns n' Roses Behind the Music special. I woke up a little after 1 and decided to listen to one side before while going to sleep. I put the needle on the record and got under my covers, looking forward to the five hours that I still had to sleep. The slow Sabbath like riffing of the guitar and the low rumbling of the bass reverberated throughout my body long after the needle had reached the end of the record and returned to its holding place. I lay in bed with my eyes closed, trying to sleep while the anger and heaviness of Earthride still rang through my body like a churchbell during the twelth hour. I wasn't able to fall asleep until after 2:30, and I blame it all on the heavy riff slaying of Earthride.
That said, this is a fucking awesome record, and it sounds amazing on vinyl. Earthride play dirty stoner/doom metal with more balls that a World Series baseball game. Everything sounds so low, and the guitar riffs are great. The vocals are dry and throaty, an ultimate southern rock voice that just adds so much to the band.
Even though Vampire Circus may not be the album to put on to lull yourself to sleep, its packed full of enough heaviness to really set you in motion, pump you up and make you angry.
It should also be noted that the picture disc vinyl is limited to only 777 copies. I'm not a vinyl collector, but the look of the disc really struck me, and the music is fucking killer to boot. This is a find that you will not forget.
