Paint it Black-Surrender
Fat

Its going to be hard to listen to these four EPs without comparing them to each other, which already makes Paint it Black's EP endeavor different from the bands releasing full lengths this year. Surrender, while having some great moments, was as much of a letdown as a Paint it Black release could be, meaning that the songs didn't immediately jump out at me and steal my heart. At under seven minutes, it is difficult to make much of an instant impact, though they do their best, making a decent sized dent in the process.
They still play with their ferocity of an angry lion on steroids, with great speed and an outstanding hardcore formula. Their best moments come from bassist Andy Williams. His slow bass line on "Worms" is enough to get anybody in the pit, especially knowing that the hardcore scream of Dan Yemin is coming. "Sacred" starts things off right, with speed and a fun sing along part. "Cipher" and "Surrender" are classic Paint it Black songs, but this EP goes by almost too fast for me to truly enjoy. Granted, I do listen to it three or four times in a row to make sure I catch everything, but I was hoping for something a little more. This is still well worth the investment.
