Grabass Charlestons/The Ergs
No Idea
May 11, 2007

The Ergs remind me of John Cusack in "Better Off Dead." A little geeky, a little on the bad luck side, but all heart. These two punk songs, made even better with a clip from "Dirty Work," are very catchy, and the lyrics are meaningful and creative ("Its Like I Say, Y'Know" brings out a childlike imagination as it looks back at how things have changed). This is one punk band that is on the rise, with getting slots on good tours, soon the be the headliner.

Grabass Chalestons are always guaranteed to write some fun songs, and the two they offer up here are no different. The gruff vocals and fast singing make "I Like Cats" a great song to sing along to. The music is at a faster mid tempo, which leaves just the right amount of sing along fun. "Double Ding-Dong-King-Kong-Sing-Song...The Official Hamburger of the Soviettes/Grabass Tour Summer 2005" is one very long ass title, and the song is a lot more pleasurable to listen to than to type out. The tempo isn't much different from "I Like Cats," and the gruff vocals (though low in the mix) are still the focal point.

Both bands are up and comers, and they are both a lot of fun to listen to. This EP, especially with its cheap price, is well worth it.
