Watch: 3-Minute Supercut Highlights The ‘Jurassic World’ Homages To The 'Jurassic Park' Trilogy

Jurassic Park Jurassic WorldThe success of this year’s “Jurassic World” was staggering. The dino-sized opening weekend smashed box office records, then the film bounded on to the quickest billion ever. For all its flaws (mostly the way it treated the female characters, and the lackluster finale), “Jurassic World” brought the thrills it promised, capitalizing upon the mythology of its predecessors, updating it for the 21st century, and keeping the whole thing extremely light on its feet and appropriate for the whole family (mostly). This one film cemented the star power of Chris Pratt and turned Colin Trevorrow (a filmmaker with only one other title to his name) into one of the most sought after directors in the business. But more than anything else, it certified the culturally embedded legacy of the Steven Spielberg classic “Jurassic Park.”

Now a new supercut is here to highlight just how well “Jurassic World” plays off the earlier iterations. Edited together by Whoispablo, “Jurassic World vs Jurassic Park Trilogy” places the reboot beside the original three films. Many of these scenes or shots in Trevorrow’s flick were obviously intentional nods meant to be noticed by the general moviegoing public, but a good portion of the ones captured here are eloquently executed homages—though others, it must be noted, fail to live up to the excitement or originality of that first Spielberg version. And, if for nothing else, the supercut is an interesting watch to see just how much CG and cinema itself has evolved over the past two decades.
