Watch A New Trailer For Sci-Fi 'The 5th Wave' Starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Nick Robinson and Liev Schreiber

The 5th WaveWe’re coming up to an interesting point in the recent history of the YA movie. “Harry Potter” and “Twilight” have come to an end, and “The Hunger Games” wraps up in November. And though there are a few possible contenders (“The Maze Runner” did better than most expected), most of the films trying to fill their gaps, from “Eragon” to “Beautiful Creatures,” have died on the vine. Will the same fate happen to “The 5th Wave?”

Based on a novel by Rick Yancey, the film sees Chloë Grace Moretz as teen Cassidy, who searches for her younger brother after an alien race have decimated the Earth’s population. Nick Robinson, Maika Monroe, Alex Roe, Liev Schreiber, Tony Revolori, Ron Livingston and Maggie Siff also star, and Sony released a new full-length trailer for the movie this morning.

On the one hand, it doesn’t look like it’s breaking any particularly new ground — a sort of teen friendly take on Spielberg’s “War Of The Worlds”.  On the other hand, it’s got some good talent behind it (“Erin Brockovich” writer Susannah Grant, “The Disappearance Of Alice Creed” director J. Blakeson), and seems to be a cut above most YA stuff. Is our faith in it misplaced? We’ll find out when the movie hits on January 15th, 2016. Watch the trailer below.
