Watch The First Trailer For 'Black Mirror'-Style Sci-Fi 'Marjorie Prime' Starring Jon Hamm

A few years on from the end of “Mad Men,” and Jon Hamm hasn’t quite hit movie star stratosphere in the way that some predicted for him. He’s been associated with some hits — “The Town,” “Bridesmaids,” but his occasional vehicles like “Million Dollar Arm” or “Keeping Up With The Joneses” never quite set the world alight, and he’s often seemed more interested in doing fun cameos on TV comedies than pursuing A-list film status.

But could 2017 be the year of Hamm? We’ve already seen his terrific supporting turn in sleeper smash “Baby Driver,” and he’s got projects on the way including ensemble comedy “Tag,” the Tony Gilroy-penned thriller “High Wire Act” and Mark Pellington’s drama “Nostalgia.” But next up is the intriguing sci-fi drama “Marjorie Prime,” and you can see the film in motion in the trailer below.

The latest from director Michael Almereyda sees Hamm return to the near-fi vibes with which he had great success in “Black Mirror,” with the great Lois Smith starring as a widow who forms an attachment to an A.I. recreation of her dead husband in his prime, played by Hamm. Geena Davis and Tim Robbins also star as the couple’s children, and the film’s scored by the great Mica Levi, of “Under The Skin” and “Jackie” fame.

Almereyda can be hit and miss, but Jess enjoyed the film on the festival circuit earlier in the year, saying that film “does bore deep, right through the more obvious strata to the farther, rare questions seldom asked regarding our relationship to memory — not just what we remember and why, but who we are remembering for.” EW bowed the trailer, and you can catch the film rolling out in theaters from August 18th.
